”It had now been three days since the rockslide that forced Briam to separate from his group.
He kept moving forward, ”They must be here somewhere, they can’t be gone!” he kept repeating to himself, trying to muster strength, barely holding up the torch with his trembling, now overtired hand.
How could three days have passed without meeting any of his companions, even if they should be nearby.
Just as Briam was about to resign himself to his lonely fate, a faint singing-like sound altered his sad and weary face.
” That must be them! I had heard that Noel liked to sing to relieve tension. I finally found them!”
Step by step the dulcet singing grew deeper and deeper, hunger and fatigue began to no longer weigh on Briam’s body as he continued to follow the singing unceasingly.
His mind was now clear, almost as if emptied of any apprehensions or thoughts that had accompanied him over the past few days.
What was he doing in that cramped cave? Why had he left? Who was he looking for? How long had he been walking? Try as he might, he could not remember, the only thought that was free to run through his mind was following the voice….”
